Science at the Schoolhouse
We’re thrilled to share an update on our Science at the Schoolhouse program! In 2025, we revisited some of the favorite activities from our first season—Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, and Force and Motion. These interactive exhibits continue to spark curiosity and excitement among our young visitors, who enjoy rotating through the hands-on stations before ending the day playing outside—just like children might have over a century ago at the Schoolhouse.
This program wouldn’t be possible without the incredible team of volunteers who shared their time and expertise to inspire the next generation of scientists. Heartfelt thanks to: Levi Gorrell and Matina Heisler for creating and coordinating the events, and to Jeff Koberstein, Brian Monteleone, Marinna Martini, Krista Longnecker, Ken Heisler, Elizabeth Abeltin, Joan Holden, and Susan Ashbrook.
Thanks to the generous funding from our matching grant, we were able to purchase exciting new materials including a Van de Graaff generator, components for a solar projector, optics lenses, stickers, and more. We also ran targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram to help raise awareness of the program and the Schoolhouse.
Looking ahead, we are excited to be partnering with the Cape Cod Astronomical Society to coordinate solar observing activity. We are also always looking for general science helpers to help guide the kids. Let us know if you would like to help out; it’s a great way to engage with our community and witness firsthand the joy this program brings.
Our goal remains simple but meaningful: to ignite children’s interest in science and to ensure that the Schoolhouse continues to be a place of discovery and learning. When kids drive by, we hope they don’t just see an old building—they see a place where they learned something really cool.
Thank you all for your support and for helping us make this such a success!
